Santi Parvam is the treasure chest in Mahabharata full of Dharma, Neeti and Tatva subjects. Knowing Karna being his big brother Yudhishtira gets dejected for killing him. Vana Parva, also known as Aranya Parva is one of the largest of the 18 Parvas of Mahabharata. Vanaparva depicts Pandava's sincerity, patience and courage towards abiding by Dharma, despite the facts that they are  capable of fighting back and that they had got the peoples' support. మహాభారతమును ఐదవ వేదమనిరి. జ్ఞానవిజ్ఞాన సర్వస్వమంతయు వేదమునందున్నటులే మహాభారతమునందుకూడ నిక్షిప్తమై యున్నది. మహాభారతకథ యనగా కేవల కౌరవపాండవుల చరిత్రయని అభిప్రాయపడుట సహజము. కాని ఆ కథాభాగములోనే అనేకానేక ఉపాఖ్యానములున్నవి. ఉపాఖ్యానమనగా ప్రథానకథలో చెప్పబడిన చిన్న కథలు. కథలద్వారా ఒక నీతిని, ధర్మమును, తత్వమును సులభముగా చెప్పవచ్చును. ఒక పర్వతమునెక్కుటకు చేతికర్ర నుపయోగించు రీతిని గంభీరతత్వము నెరుగుటకు ఉపాఖ్యానములు అత్యావశ్యాకమై యుండును. మహాభారతమొక ధర్మశాస్త్రము. ధర్మ మనగా ధరించబడునది. ధర్మాధర్మములు రెండింటిని మహాభారతము అనేక ఉపాఖ్యానముల ద్వారా వెల్లడించినది.

ఉపనిషత్ జ్ఞానముచే అధ్యాత్మిక ప్రగతి సాధించవచ్చును. కాని లోకములో వ్యవహరించు జ్ఞానము తెలియకపోవచ్చును. ఆరెండింటిని సంపూర్ణమొనర్చి వేదశాస్త్రార్థములను అల్పబుద్ధులకు సైతము అవగతమగునటుల మహాభారత ఉపాఖ్యానములు రచించబడినవి. కావున మహాభారతము సాంసారిక శాస్త్రమనియు, మోక్షశాస్త్రమనియు పిలువబడినది. మహాభారతమునందు అపూర్వార్థము గలవియు, పుణ్యదాయకమైనవియు, అనేక గ్రంధముల సారమును దెలుపునవియు, ఉత్తమ సంస్కారము బోధించునవియు పెక్కు ఉపాఖ్యానములున్నవి. ధర్మము నుపదేశించి మానవులను సన్మార్గవర్తనులను చేయుటయే ఉపాఖ్యానముల ఉద్దేశ్యమని వేదవ్యాసమహర్షి స్వయముగా పలికెను. ఉపాఖ్యాన పఠనముచే కాయిక, వాచక, మానసిక పాపములు నశించును. మహాభారత కథకు ఆయువుపట్టు ఉపాఖ్యానములే.  ఉపాఖ్యానములనెడి పునాదిపై కౌరవపాండవగాధ యనెడి భవంతి నిర్మించబడినది.
